iCal is an extraordinary calendar and planner software that comes with your mac and enables you creating calendars for all the different events. One of the coolest features of iCal is that you can publish and share your calendars online so you can access them anytime wherever you are or make them public and share them with your friends and family. If you have subscription to .Mac service, publishing iCal calendars to your .Mac account is very straightforward task. But what if you don’t have.Mac account and you still need to publish your calendars online? In this short article I gonna explain how it can be done. There are many third-party websites that offer free iCal calendars hosting. You can use you favourite search engine to find some, but in this article I gonna use: http://www.icalx.com. First thing you have to do when you visit the website is to create an account and get a username. I recommend to choose the username that is related to your calendar name (e.g Mark’s public calendar). Once you have created your account, open iCal.app and highlight the calendar(s) that you want to publish online. from “Calendar” menu choose “Publish”. In the field “Publish calendar as:” name your calendar or leave a default name (recommended). From the “Publish On;” drop down menu choose “A Private Server” option and fill all the fields as shown here….
Base URL: http://icalx.com/private/username/ or http://icalx.com/public/username/ if you want your calendar to be public.
Login: your username
Password: your password
Once you have entered everything it’s needed, hit “Publish” button to publish your calendar online. Your calendars will now be available online in .ics and html formats. You will be able to work with your calendars from your iCal.app and when you want to publish the updates of your calendar online, just right click desired calendar and choose “Refresh all”. If you are away from your mac and still need to check your calendars(s), you can view it as a web page too. Also, you can publish as many calendars you want.

My guess is that one can publish iCal calendars on any server that supports WebDAV:
1. Open iCal.
2. Select a Calendar.
3. Choose Calendar > Publish Calendar.
4. Select “Publish Calendar on a WebDAV server”.
5. Enter the Base URL from the set up instructions that we email to you. You may choose to publish to either the Private or Public URL.
6. Enter the login name and password from the set up instructions.
7. Click Publish.
I’ve never tried hosting my own iCal server so I’m not 100 % whether it will work.
I’ve also found this:

I just published my iCal as you’ve described. Everything seemed to work fine except for one thing. None of my recurring events published. Any thoughts on why that is and anything I can do about it? Thanks for the help!

Hi Mike!
Have you try to republish your calendars> I found this on their iCalX website:
“Hmmph. This time we went down because of a disk error on the Web server! I’ve got to look into these hard drive manufacturers. The site is back online on a different server now, but because of the disk hardware error, I had to choose which calendars to try to recover. I figured if the calendar hasn’t been updated in 2007, it’s out of date, so I didn’t bother with those. Of those in 2007, I know some weren’t able to be retrieved, so if you’re missing your calendar online, please just republish/refresh it from within iCal (or your other calendar program).”
Try to republish calendars from within iCal app and then try again. If you use Leopard, also try this:
1 – Quit iCal.
2 – Open a Finder window. From your home directory, go to Library and then Calendars. You should see a file called Calendar Cache. You can either delete this file (scary) or click on it and rename it.
3 – Restart iCal.
Hope this helps.
